What kinds of questions should I ask the surgeon before the surgery?

You probably have a slew of questions about the procedure - otherwise, why would you be on this website!? The most important thing to remember is that there is no such thing as a stupid question. And even if you've read the answer to a question here, ask it again. You don't just wan the universal answer - you want to hear the answer the surgeon gives. This will not only provide additional information about the surgeon and his or her willingness to patiently and respectfully answer your questions, but you also want to make sure all the information he or she gives jives with the information you've gotten in your research!

Some additional questions to help you make your decision about which surgeon to pick are:

• How long have you been practicing?
• Where did you go to medical school?
• How many LASIK procedures have you performed in total?
• How many LASIK procedures have you performed this year?
• Are you board certified, and if so, may I see your credentials?
• Who else will be in the room during the procedure?
• What kind of pre-surgical care do you provide?
• What will our post-surgical relationship be like?
• What sets your practice apart from the others I'm looking into?
• How up to date is your equipment?

The most important thing to remember is if you have a question, ask it. These are your eyes, and you must make sure you feel abundantly comfortable asking anything that crosses your mind. If your surgeon acts negatively, makes you feel rushed, or in way has an air of impatience, consider choosing another surgeon. You should trust your eyes only to the person with whom you feel most comfortable, and is willing to take the time to answer your questions.
