What is Bladeless LASIK?

You may have heard something about all the different types of LASIK procedures that exist today. It may be a little confusing, but remember that it's nice to have so many options, each being a better, more technologically advanced procedure than the one before it. Bladeless LASIK is exactly one of these more technologically advanced procedures which offer a safer, more customized approach to giving you better vision for which you won't need glasses!

In Bladeless LASIK, a high-energy laser, commonly known as Intralake, is used to retract the cornea. This replaces the blade, which was previously needed to create a corneal flap. While the laser still must penetrate the corneal surface, it is guided by highly specialized machines. This leaves less room for human error.

Bladeless LASK is typically offered far more than conventional LASIK these days, simply because it is safer, more reliable, and accurate. You may not hear the procedure billed as "Bladeless LASIK", but most often, this is the procedure being used. If you're not sure about which procedure you're looking into, ask your LASIK Eye Surgeon about which form of LASIK they do!
