What are some of the risks of LASIK?
As with any surgical procedure, there are occasionally complications that may involve risks for the patient. While these risks and complication are rare, it is important that patients know that they do exist, so they're able to make informed decisions about their LASIK Eye Surgery.
Still rare, but perhaps the most common of the side effects reported are some altered vision issues after the surgery. Night glare, halos, double vision or monovision are among some previously heard complaints of a few patients. Many surgeons are able to correct this issue, but some are not. In these cases, it may have meant the patient had a condition that predisposed them to these vision issues.
Some patients also develop what is known as "dry eye syndrome" - a lack of production of tears as a result of the surgery. This can be uncomfortable for the patient, and also cause some vision issues due to the lack of moisture in the eye, however this can be remediated with eye drops.
There are additional, extremely rare side effects that you should ask your surgeon about. Any good, responsible surgeon will fully disclose all the potential side effects you may encounter, so be sure to ask ahead of time. These questions can be included in your pre-interview as you decide which LASIK Eye Surgeon is the right one for you.
