Repairing Computer Damaged Eyes with LASIK
A huge majority of jobs now require that a computer be used for certain tasks and looking at a computer screen for hours and hours every day can diminish your vision. Add this to the fact most people have desktop computers and/or laptops and netbooks they use after work and you compound the eye strain. Eventually this diminished vision can affect your ability to work and even drive and that's where LASIK can help.
There are a few things you can do to reduce the amount of eye strain you experience. First of all, make sure any computer monitor screen that you're using is tilted away from you. Don't try to "work through" glare. Move the computer screen around to eliminate the glare. The American Association of Eye Doctors has also suggested that individuals that work or use a computer for more than 6 hours a day should consider getting an eye exam every six months instead of once a year to catch any potential eye issues early and correct them before they cause diminished vision or other vision problems.
Common complaints caused by heavy computer use include eyestrain, neck and shoulder pain, blurred vision, and overall fatigue. Most people assume that working on a computer screen isn't any worse than working with paper documents all day long. However, paper doesn't have the eye damaging glare that working on a computer screen does but the biggest difference is that paper doesn't have the bright light of a computer monitor and images on a computer usually are set to a much sharper contrast than paper-based images. To maintain healthy vision, the eye should regularly be encouraged to focus from near to far on a regular basis. This is easily accomplished by taking frequent breaks and spending time away from the computer screen. The numbers for computer users that experience eye issues are huge, a whopping 75% of computer users suffer from at least one type of eye issue.
If you're already wearing glasses or contacts and you find you'd like the freedom of using a computer and participating in life consider the prospects of LASIK. There are several different types of this procedure that have been developed so nearly everyone can now qualify for the procedure. If you've been told the price of LASIK is too expensive - consider this - a large number of people that undergo eye surgery will be free from glass and contacts which will more than pay for the one-time LASIK procedure over time.
