I have astigmatism. Can LASIK work for me?

Astigmatism, which is the blurred vision due to the inability to focus the eye to a sharp image, is a common vision problem that is experienced by millions of people. The blurred vision is a result of tiny imperfections, or tiny curvatures on the surface of the cornea. Astigmatism can be commonly compensated for with glasses or contacts. However, individuals with astigmatism tend to be prime candidates for refractive surgery, otherwise known as LASIK Eye Surgery.

Because the very premise of LASIK Eye Surgery is to go into the eye with a laser and smooth out the tiny curvatures causing vision problems, those with astigmatism tend to do very well after LASIK. It's almost as if LASIK was designed for people with this vision issue.

There are some instances in which people with astigmatism may not be candidates for LASIK Eye Surgery. You may have co-occuring medical issues which put you at risk, your astigmatism may be beyond the point of correction, or perhaps there are some other factors coming into play. Either way, it is best to trust the judgement of the LASIK Eye Surgeon.

If you have astigmatism, and are interested in seeing if LASIK is right for you, contact a LASIK Eye Surgeon today. As most individuals with astigmatism are prime candidates, you could be one of the millions of people who are seeing more clearly almost immediately after your surgery!
