I am pregnant. Can I get LASIK?
I am pregnant. Can I get LASIK?
The short answer is probably not. Given the delicate nature of you and your baby's health, most surgeons will not take the risk of performing any kind of surgery unless it was absolutely necessary. Even though LASIK is highly effective, and tremendously reliable, it is still an elective procedure, and there is no need to take this kind of risk when your status of pregnancy will change in as soon as nine months - if not sooner.
Likewise, many surgeons will not perform the procedure if you're breastfeeding. Because there are so many bodily changes associated with breastfeeding, your physical status is still considered altered at this time, and similarly if you were pregnant, most doctors will simply ask you to wait until you are no longer breastfeeding to undergo the LASIK procedure.
If you are considering getting the LASIK Eye Surgery procedure, but are also considering getting pregnant, you and your spouse will need to assess which is the higher priority at this time. If you're currently pregnant or breastfeeding, and are interested in getting LASIK Eye Surgery, feel free to make the initial consult appointment just to assess if you're in fact a candidate. If you are, the doctor will make you wait until you're no longer pregnant or breastfeeding, but at least you can get the ball rolling!
