How long is the recovery from LASIK?
The reason the LASIK Eye Surgery procedure is so appealing to so many people is the ease with which the procedure is performed, and the incredibly quick recovery process associated with the healing.
The actual procedure only takes several minutes from beginning to end, and the patient will be awake for the duration. Most patients feel nothing, with a few patients only feeling minor discomfort that is typically associated with the tool that keeps the eye open.
Once the procedure is done, the patient is typically sent home with protective eye wear, and advised to take a long, restful nap. Once the patient wakes up from the nap, many people immediately start seeing the difference. The patient may feel sleepy for the remainder of the day, but should be able to be up, and walking around with no problem by the evening. You may consider taking one additional day off after the procedure to fully adjust to your new way of seeing things, but many patients are back to work within a day or two following their procedure.
You will be continued to be monitored by your doctor for a follow-up appointment following the procedure, but most patients, overall, can expect a hassle-free, relatively easy and quick recovery period after the LASIK procedure is completed!
