How do I know the results are going to last?
How do I know the results are going to last?
Well, to be truthful, you don't. However, you shouldn't let that be the main deterrent for getting the surgery. Here is why.
LASIK Eye Surgery was first introduced to the broad market in 1997 as a means of correcting some vision problems. A flap in the cornea is created, and the cornea is reshaped with a laser to smooth out the imperfections that cause most common vision problems. As the procedure is only slightly over a decade old, it's impossible to judge the long term affects since it's introduction in the world marketplace and modern medicine.
However, other vision correction surgeries have been performed well before 1997, and the results of those similar types of procedures are overwhelmingly positive. Additionally, there are many long-term LASIK studies currently underway to assess patients' long term satisfaction with the revolutionary procedure. The LASIK industry current boasts a satisfaction rate of about 96%, so the purpose of these studies is to see if the general public who has received the surgery agrees.
So far, the study has indicated most dissatisfaction with the surgery results from experiences with individual surgeons and practices - not the results of the surgery themselves. This again is why it is so important to be sure you've done adequate research regarding your LASIK Eye Surgeon. Be sure to conduct individual interviews with every surgeon you're considering, and do your homework regarding the satisfaction trends of each surgeons' collection of patients.
