We stress over and over again the importance of finding the right surgeon for your LASIK Eye Surgery. As a matter of fact, it is arguably the most important factor to consider when deciding whether or not to get the surgery. As such, there are a multitude of things you should look for when trying to identify the right surgeon to perform your procedure.
First of all, is the practice willing to see you ahead of time and is the surgeon willing to meet you face to face? Some practices will have you come in, fill out paperwork, and then schedule the appointment without ever having had the chance to meet the actual person opening your eye! This is a red flag. Meet the surgeon, and come prepared with a list of questions and concerns you can take up with him or her. For example, you may be interested in how many surgeries they've done, what their track record is, where they went to school, where they did their training, what technologies they're using in the office, how they stay up to date on the latest practices and technologies for their office, etc.
It also may be important to ask for references. While the surgeon probably won't give you any dissatisfied customer, you would be surprised some of the interesting information you may get out of a so-called happy client!
Finally, the most important thing to go on is your gut. You may get all the perfect textbook answers to every question, but your interaction and relationship with the surgeon in that limited amount of time may be enough to tell you whether or not you'd feel comfortable having him or her take a laser to your eye.
