A bad lasik surgery outcome can negatively affect the rest of your life and that is why your surgeon's expertise and skill is very important. Your choice of a surgeon should not be based on the type of LASIK technology used, location or cost considerations. There is a large number of factors you should consider when looking for a good LASIK surgeon. Your LASIK doctor should have excellent credentials, experience and willingness to answer all of your questions.
As a starting point you could ask for recommendations from your regular eye care practitioner. You can also ask for referrals from your co-workers, family and friends who've undergone LASIK surgery. A good lasik surgeon typically has a board certification beyond having a basic license to practice medicine. You may want to consider choosing a surgeon who is a member of the American College of Surgeons.
Make sure you consider the surgeon's competency and versatility in various refractive procedures. Select a surgeon who is experienced and comfortable with several procedures including clear lens replacement, CK, LASEK PRK and LASIK. You may also want to be sure that the staff members seem friendly and competent. Your relationship with your LASIK surgeon should be based on trust. Any doctor who doesn't make you feel at ease with the procedure should not be considered for your LASIK surgery.
